Recipes and ideas to make your own household items

Make your own homemade Insect repellent

Now many people may feel that a proper vacation should involve a tropical island or a visit to an exciting city like Chicago with a luxurious stay in one of the best hotels in Chicago. However for many people down time is spent camping or just hanging out in the yard, and that can lead to problems with wee pests. To ward off mosquitoes, gnats, midges and other flying insects try one of these home recipes. I have 2 recipes for home made repellent that should keep mosqitoes, gnats, midges and other flying insects away from you

Recipe 1

  • 4 tablespoons of baby oil
  • 1 tablespoon of Dettol

Mix well together and apply to skin. Apparently the anglers in Scotland use it all the time and I suppose they should know how to keep midges away if anyone does !

Recipe 2

  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 cup of water

Simply mix together and apply to the skin. You can also place some neat vanilla extract in a small open container where the gnats tend to congregate and this will keep them away.
