Make your own homemade Christmas Snow

Add a touch of wintry beauty to your Christmas tree by painting the branches with this unusual, attractive ‘snowy’ mixture

To make enough for a 4 ft/l .2 m tree

  • 6 floz/175ml liquid starch
  • l lb/450g soap flakes or washing powder
  • 2-4 tablespoons water Blue food colouring

In a medium-size bowl, mix together the liquid starch and soap flakes, and then add the water. Beat with an electric whisk until the mixture becomes very thick. Add the food colouring a drop at a time (an eyedropper is a good idea), beating until the ‘snow’ has an icy-white colour. Put a sheet of polythene, or a dust sheet, under or around the tree base before painting on the snow. Add white glitter last of all to give a crystalline appearance.
