Make your own homemade Comb and Brush Cleaner

Combs and Brushes can become very dirty over time so this cleaning solution should return them to tip top condition. It will remove the oily residue which often clings to the bristles of hair brushes and combs.

To make 1 treatment

  • 8 tablespoons household ammonia
  • 2 pints/1.15 litres water
  • 1/2 teaspoon shampoo or mild washing powder

Mix all the ingredients in a shallow bowl. Place combs and brushes in the solution bristle side down (but check that the brush handles can be safely immersed in case they get wet) and leave them to soak for 5-10 minutes. Then remove from the solution and clean the comb with the brush, and then vice versa. Rinse the brush and comb with water and leave them to dry on a towel before using. To keep your brushes and combs in top condition, repeat this treatment at least once a fortnight.
