Make your own homemade Fertilizer

This simple fertilizer will provide general nutrition for most nonflowering houseplants.

To make 1 dose, that can be used monthly

  • 1 tablespoon Epsom salts
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • ½ teaspoon saltpeter
  • ¼  teaspoon household ammonia
  • 8 pints/4.5 liters warm water

Combine the Epsom salts, bicarbonate of soda, saltpeter and ammonia in a small bowl. In a bucket, dissolve the mixture in the warm water. Use once a month in the place of your regular watering. For an acid-loving plant, add 4 drops white vinegar.
