Make your own homemade Wax finish for raw wood

This treatment is for raw wood, such as exposed beams, and should not be used over other finishes.

To make 1 pint 4 floz/680ml

  • 8 floz/225ml turpentine
  • 8 floz/225ml melted beeswax
  • 8 floz/225ml boiled linseed oil

Warm the turpentine in the top of a double boiler; stir in the beeswax until it dissolves, then add the oil. Remove from the heat and brush the warm mixture onto raw wood. Allow to dry and then buff with a clean soft cloth.

Caution Because this recipe uses flammable materials, make sure the mixture does not overheat or spill onto a hot cooking surface.
