Make your own homemade Wax for finished wood

Here is a recipe for a highly durable finish that repels water and minimizes scratching to the wood surface.

To make 1 pint 8 floz/800 ml

  • 8 floz/225ml turpentine or white spirit
  • 1 lb/400g white wax shavings

Warm the turpentine in the top of a double boiler; add the wax shavings and stir until melted. Remove from the heat, pour into a container and allow to cool. If the wax becomes too hard to use, soften it in a double boiler and add more turpentine.

Caution Because this recipe uses flammable materials, make sure the mixture does not overheat or spill onto a hot surface.
